Bus Tour: Tartleton’s Raid/Jouett’s Ride

Dr. John Maass will guide us on a bus tour following Banastre Tarleton’s march to capture Thomas Jefferson and Jack Jouett’s famous ride to warn Jefferson of the danger during the southern campaign of the Revolutionary War.
Tour includes light breakfast at the Tavern and box lunch. Tour departs from Hanover Tavern at 9:00 AM and will return in the late afternoon.
Dr. John Maass is a historian at the U.S. Army Center of Military History, Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. He received a BA in history from Washington & Lee University, an MA in U.S. history from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a PhD in early U.S. history from the Ohio State University. He was an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1987 to 1992.
He is the author of The Road to Yorktown: Jefferson, Lafayette and the British Invasion of Virginia (The History Press); North Carolina and the French and Indian War: The Spreading Flames of War (The History Press); and Defending a New Nation, 1783-1811 (U.S. Army Center of Military History).
