Guided Tours: 2:00 Wednesday-Friday ~ Self-guided 11:00-4:00
Hanover Tavern offers a variety of tour options that include a self guided audio tour ($5.00 / members $3.00) or a guided tour of the Tavern’s basement and first floor rooms. The unique history of the 18th century Tavern makes it an ideal choice for groups of any size with varying interest in architecture, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, or African American history.
Advance registration is required for groups of 10 or more. Call 804-537-5050 ext. 21 for more information and to make reservations. Tours are scheduled to run from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, Wednesday-Friday, and last approximately 60 minutes. Please call to schedule tours at other times. Public guided tours of the Tavern will begin at 2:00 Wednesday-Friday, unless otherwise noted.
Almost a year in the making, the Self-Guided Audio Tour features handheld devices with a recorded tour interpreting a dozen stops throughout the Tavern. The tour focuses on the evolution of the building, architectural features, important events (Gabriel’s slave rebellion) and interesting visitors and residents such as Patrick Henry, Margaret Wight, and the Chisholm family.
Join us one Wednesday each month for an evening walking tour of Hanover Tavern to learn about the spirits who lurk in the shadows of this centuries-old building…
