Hanover Tavern offers several educational programs on and off site. Along with our flagship Fourth Grade SOL Field Trip, Hanover Tavern can bring history to you with our sixth grade Civil War classroom presentation and Historic Traveling Trunk.
Sixth Grade Programs
2017 4th Grade SOL Field Trip – March 20 – April 7
Hanover Tavern and the Historic Courthouse area is a microcosm of American history with stories to tell from Colonial, Revolutionary, and Civil War times. Students will experience a first-rate field trip without the cost of leaving central Virginia and will be exposed to the broad range of U.S.history topics that the Tavern site offers. The program is designed for 4th grade students to enhance their understanding of Virginia history and reinforce the SOL framework for Virginia Studies (SOLs: VS.1, VS.2. VS.4, VS.5, VS.6, VS.7)
During your field trip, students will interact with fascinating living history characters such as Patrick Henry, Patsey Henry, Thornton, Margaret Wight, Mr. Chisholm the Tavern Keeper, and Martha Ann Fields the Tavern Slave as well as visit a replica Civil War encampment to discuss all aspects of the life of the common soldiers, North and South, during the war.
