Hanover Tavern is dedicated to providing educational opportunities for all — history buffs, students, or anyone who wants to learn more about the rich heritage of the Tavern and surrounding areas.
Civil War Bus Tours: Twice a year (spring and fall) The Hanover Tavern Foundation host a guided bus tour that focuses on a lesser known engagement in Hanover County and features stops at private homes and properties that are not available to the general touring population. Participants enjoy breakfast, and lunch.
Heritage Music Series: The Heritage Music Series pays tribute to Hanover Tavern’s cultural history by bringing varying musicians from around the nation to play music with a cultural and historic basis to the Tavern. All musical groups perform their music while also telling the story of their culture, instruments, and melodies. The shows are the first Wednesday of each month, and are open to the public free of charge.
Speaker Series: As part of the educational experience at Hanover Tavern every third Tuesday of the month we feature a new author, speaker, or presentation that explore different topics unique to the history of the United States, Virginia, Hanover County, or the Tavern. Past programs have included hearth cooking, wine tasting, authors, architects, Civil War presentations, and historic collections.
Christmas Open House is an old-fashion community event that includes an outside tree lighting, area business and home window candle lighting, trees within the Tavern, Santa and Mrs. Claus, carolers, and Snow Bear. Free of charge.
